They’re still young but they’re still caring  – Young carers tell their stories on new podcast

Gloucestershire Young Carers have recently launched a new podcast “Still Young Still Caring”, a podcast designed by young carers for young carers and the professionals that support them and their families.

The podcast takes a deep dive into the lives of young carers and the different elements of their lives that are impacted by their caring roles. Each episode will tackle a different topic with a different group of young carers to share their experiences and honest views on the subject.

Episode one, available now on Spotify and YouTube Podcasts, explores what a young carer is and how their different caring roles impacts them all differently, including their education, work, mental health and more.

The podcast was created from an idea presented by a group of young carers in the ‘Our Voice’ and ‘YACtion’ forums, wanting to give a new, modern platform for them and other young carers to share their voices and experiences with young carers around the county (and country) and also with professionals who may want to learn more about young carers.

A team of young carers have come up with a series of episodes around themes they think would be helpful for others to hear about and also provide support to young carers who may be experiences similar situations.

Young carers have helped design, plan and create the podcast, including presenting, filming and audio mixing themselves!

Over the coming months look out for new podcast episodes looking at topics around education, substance misuse, mental health, social care, the transition to university and more!

Episode two is available now! This episode we sit down with young adult carers, Carmen, Isabella and Jemima to look back at their experiences with Gloucestershire Young Carers and the difference support around their caring role has made to them as they have grown up.
