Did you know that around 1 in 12 secondary-aged children are young carers?

These young people are juggling caregiving responsibilities alongside their education.

At GYC, we believe young carers should be recognised, understood and supported within school & college so they can enjoy the same life chances and opportunities as their peers.

Other key facts:

  • On average, young carers will achieve significantly lower GCSE results
  • Young carers aged 16-18 are twice as likely to drop out of education, employment or a training programme
  • 68% of young carers have experienced bullying
(BBC (2010), Carers Trust (2013), Audit commission (2010), The Princess Royal Trust for Carers (2010))

What can I do to improve outcomes for young carers?

GYC has created a unique E-Learning module exclusively for education staff.

Our Young Carers Course can be completed as part of your continuous professional development.

Not only will you gain valuable knowledge to support young carers, but each participant will also receive a certificate as proof of accomplishment
