Education

Did you know that around 1 in 12 secondary-aged children are young carers?

These young people are juggling caregiving responsibilities alongside their education.

At GYC, we believe young carers should be recognised, understood and supported within school & college so they can enjoy the same life chances and opportunities as their peers.

Other key facts:

  • On average, young carers will achieve significantly lower GCSE results
  • Young carers aged 16-18 are twice as likely to drop out of education, employment or a training programme
  • 68% of young carers have experienced bullying
(BBC (2010), Carers Trust (2013), Audit commission (2010), The Princess Royal Trust for Carers (2010))

What can I do to improve outcomes for young carers?
