Young Carers are special guests at CTFC match

On Monday 1st April 2024 three young carers were given the opportunity to be special guests at Cheltenham Town FC vs Exeter City in a crucial Sky bet League One match at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium.

Courtesy of Optimising IT, Young Carers and staff were given a hospitality package at Cheltenham Town FC, enjoying a 2 course lunch and the best seats in the house to watch the robins host Exeter City.

In addition to watching the game, Jojo, Brooklyn and Harry had the opportunity to interview star players Matty Taylor and Tom Bradbury and get to learn more about them, their toughest opponents and any advice for young players wanting to become professionals.

The first half proved uneventful with man of the match, Luke Southwood (voted for by the young carers), keeping Cheltenham Town in it with some brilliant saves. That soon changed in the second half with Cheltenham scoring the opening goal only to be quickly cancelled out by Exeter. After a number of chances for both teams, a 90th minute penalty awarded to Exeter handed the victory to the visitors.

A thrilling second half made the decision to choose man of the match that much harder but  Harry, Brooklyn and Jojo selected Cheltenham town goalkeeper Luke Southwood and had the honour of presenting him with the man of the match award on the pitch after the game.

Harry said: “This was my first time watching a football match live and I would definitely come again!”

“Thank you to Gloucestershire Young Carers for such a wonderful day! Jojo really enjoyed it! (despite the score)” said Jojo’s mum.
