A team of intrepid paddleboarders from Quayside Wealth Management company in Gloucester set out to raise money to support the work our charity is doing with young carers.
The team, including Alex, Adam and Andrina, were joined along the way by supporters including Mary who has volunteered at the charity since she was 14. They set off from near Kidderminster and headed south, aiming to reach Gloucester in 24 hours.
But disaster struck 13 hours in when a fin broke leaving the team stranded and demotivated. However, they still raised more than £1000 jointly.
Mary is fundraising to put on a singing workshop and concert at Christmas with young carers and her activities will continue through the summer.
Alex, of Quayside, said: “The lads all tried to rally around but by then I think our morale had cracked and the sheer difficulty of the paddling was too much. No one is more gutted than we are.”
In addition, Quayside have offered so much more support to Gloucestershire Young Carers in the form of contacts and sponsorship.
A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Young Carers said: “This was an incredible challenge and we are so grateful to the team for stepping outside of their comfort zone. It was a lot of fun to support them and we say a huge thank you to everyone who cheered them on with funds and comments on social media.”
