Midcounties Co-operative chose to support Gloucestershire Young Carers in early 2017 through their Regional Communities schemes in the Forest of Dean and in Stroud, Cam and Dursley.
During the past 18 months their colleagues have raised funds through cake sales, book sales and dress-up days in their stores. They have volunteered at events that our charity have run and two of their colleagues even took part in the We Care, We Dare event where they stepped out of their comfort zones to come face to face with their fears of spiders, snakes, disgusting drinks and creepy crawlies in the dark.
Their biggest fundraising event is their Community Fun Day that this year will take place at Newlands Park, Cheltenham on August 19th. Every penny raised will be donated to Gloucestershire Young Carers and Newland Park Sports and Social Club.
Last year Midcounties presented a cheque for more than £13,500 to Gloucestershire Young Carers. The charity has also received grants through the company’s Carrier Bags Scheme and the YAC Futures careers and speed networking event in April has been sponsored by the company. And that’s not to mention the donations of food for Forest Group and many of our various activities and away-days for young carers.
Here’s Chris Chandler talking about how the relationship has benefited both the charity and the colleagues participating:
