Cirencester Friendly the income protection specialists, who are supporting countywide children’s charity Gloucestershire Young Carers this year, will be taking to the street for a mammoth cycle ride later this month.
The staff won’t be travelling far from home, however, as they have pledged to cycle the equivalent distance of touring all the charity’s respite support groups – but without leaving the pavement outside their office.
On a static bike, on loan from local gym Snap Fitness, they will do a cycling relay to cover a target distance of 164 miles.
They have been supported in their challenge by local companies who have provided prizes which are to be awarded to staff who ride the furthest distance and they will be encouraging passers-by to donate to their fundraising.
Cirencester Friendly chose to support Gloucestershire Young Carers as their Charity of the Year following a staff vote which overwhelming chose the charity which supports more than 1000 young carers throughout the county and which runs a respite support group for young carers in the Cirencester area.
A spokesperson for Cirencester Friendly said:
“We are really excited to be holding this event to raise money for Gloucestershire Young Carers. As our Charity of the Year we are keen to support them as much as possible. It should be a great day all round, but most importantly it will be to raise as much as we can to support the young carers.”
Fundraising and Marketing Manager for Gloucestershire Young Carers, Jane Dyer, said: “I recently presented to the staff team, telling them of some of the young people we support and the challenges they face in their caring roles. The response from the staff was incredibly positive. They really appreciated how challenging life can be for young carers and they are keen to support our work to reduce the impact of the caring role for young people.”
The ride will take place on Thursday 30 May between 10am and 4pm at Cirencester Friendly, 5 Dyer Street, Cirencester.
