Volunteer Drivers
GYC seeks to support young carers in attending young carer group meetings, daytrips, residential and other events. These activities enable young carers to have a break from their caring role, gain support from their peers and staff, to have fun and to access opportunities often not avalible to them. Often these are a lifeline to these young carers, breaking down isolation and enabling them to enjoy the opportunities which most young people take for granted. One of the major barriers to accessing these serices for many young carers is the lack of transport within the family. This may be due to disability or illness of family members, poverty, the family living in a rural location or with no extended family network or a combination of these factors. In order to enable these young carers to access these activities organised by GYC we arrange transport for those young people who whould otherwise be unable to attend the groups or outings, or where the provision of transport by the family would cause excessive hardship or stress.
Being a charitable organisation with limited resources this is where the support from volunteer drivers is invaluable.
